UK new car sales surge to 10-year high in 2014

UK new car sales surge to 10-year high in 2014 January 09, 2015 by Mike Henshaw

The new car market in the UK 2014 was the most successful for 10 years, as confirmed by figures just released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Total registrations for the year were 2,476,435, making 2014 the fourth-largest market since records began.
2014 showed 9.3% growth over 2013, with every month seeing an increase.
The SMMT is forecasting growth again in 2015.
So what has brought about this growth? There has clearly been some pent up consumer demand developed over the recent years of recession, and that coupled with a strengthening economy has fuelled the market. Speaking of fuel, we can certainly look forward to an increasing interest in the growing options available as manufacturers continue to invest in new alternatives offering a greater choice between petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains.
Also, important to note as an indicator that the ‘plug-in ’market quadrupled from 2013 to 2014!
Strongly performing segments are the smaller ‘super mini’, where efficient and cost effective motoring has become much more sought after, and the continuing development of ‘dual purpose’ or cross over vehicles, which provide greater flexibility for consumers.
A range of finance offers continue to support the available product and should provide a positive start to 2015.
So it seems that the automotive sector can  look forward to 2015 with some confidence, but it's still vital to keep our eye on the 'quality and service' ball, delivering quality and convenience of service that ensures new customers stay and existing ones keep coming back.
